Calvin And Hobbes
It's a tale as old as time: boy sets out tuna fish sandwich, boy catches stuffed tiger, boy and tiger become best friends. Despite having a short, 10-year run in the daily papers, Calvin and Hobbes managed to make a massive cultural impact. People still clamor for a movie or TV show, but a Calvin and Hobbes TV show isn't happening any time soon. Famously reclusive creator Bill Watterson refuses to license the strip for merchandising, which is reasonable. What's funny, though is Bill Watterson's X-rated drawings on the subject of selling out. Fair warning: those drawings will, as Calvin's dad says, build character.
