Without trying to get into a socialist manifesto (at least not a large one), living in a capitalist culture can be a pain for consumers. When the focus on the economy is gaining the most while doing the least, it can lead to some decisions that benefit those who create or distribute a product or service rather than the public at large.
Like receipt checkers and certain store clerks are hired not to help to provide surveillance, presuming that customers will be thieves by default. Or a bank requiring you to provide identification and other sensitive materials to GIVE them money, not take it out. Or the math you have to do in order to figure out sizes between different clothing brands.
