25 of the Most Disturbing History Facts People Know

History is centered around humans. As such, it’s full of horrible, horrible things. Since our brains evolved enough to form coherent thought, we’ve been arguing over whose thoughts are the best, and it usually ends with somebody’s head bashed in with a rock. Learning about human history feels less like a college lecture and more like an autopsy.

But even for a species that’s extraordinarily cruel to itself, some people and empires really pushed the envelope. They found ways to mess up other humans that even most private military contractors would consider a little gauche. Unluckily, Redditors with history knowledge have shared some of the worst things humans have ever done to each other, and it’s hard to express how not good these things are.

They were intentionally crippled before they were killed by arrows and blunt force. The systematic and deliberate way the victims lower bones were broken indicate torture. The autopsy revealed that his gullet was so wide that when his mouth was opened, one could see directly into his stomach. tired87 5y ago They didn't use to use anisthetic on babies up until the 80s they thought babies didn't feel pain and since they fall asleep sometimes when they get hurt (circumcision etc) I think it's just a babies bodys response to pain when they can't get away from it, it's terrifying to think about... borazine 5y ago I read an article in the Guardian once about an infamous Khmer Rouge camp called S-21 which processed maybe 20,000 prisoners.
