26 of the Most Interesting Things People Own

I don’t think show-and-tell should have stopped with childhood. I guess you could argue that with Instagram, it really didn’t, but there still feels like precious few moments in adulthood to share something important to you apropos of nothing. What are you going to do, invite your friends over to look at your father’s old watch? That feels less like a hang and more like the start of a murder mystery.

Lots of people own something that’s particularly, specifically cool, even more so in context. Why wouldn’t you want to hear about it? Let me say now and forever: If you’ve got something awesome in your closet, yank that sucker out the next time I’m over. Tell me the backstory, the provenance, I’m all in.

If that sounds fun to you, to, you’ll probably enjoy this collection shared by Redditors of the coolest things they own.

ibiacmbyww 1y ago My mum's autograph book. She spent a lot of time in London in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and was something of an autograph chaser. If they could sing or play an instrument and were famous between about 1965 and 1984, my mum's got their John Hancock. Bowie, everyone from The Who, The Clash, The Beatles, and the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry, Pat Benatar, Iggy Pop, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, etc etc etc, all the big ones. She says the only disappointment was Rush, as they didn't have time to stop
shifty1032231 a 1y ago C Edited 1y ago My grandfather's WW2 Marine uniform I inherited after he passed. Edit: My grandfather was a US Marine who fought in the Pacific signing up right after Pearl Harbor attack. Не was color blind so he found a way to cheat the military's eye exam. I know that he fought on Iwo Jima and The Solomon Islands. Не rarely talked about the war.

somethin_brewin 1y ago I've got a copy of Tetris for the Gameboy autographed by Alexey Pajitnov. I met him at a game design lecture back in like 2003 and had enough forethought to bring my childhood copy of Tetris and a Sharpie. I made a little frame for it and it sits on a shelf. I don't have much attachment to things, but it's one of the few things I'd probably try to grab if my house was buring down. 52 ...

Ghoulish_Chef 1y ago Tough call. It's a toss up between an Ankylosaurus tail fossil, my medieval alchemical library (a friend collected them and I helped a little with decoding the ciphers so he left them to me when he died) and a Creature From The Black Lagoon lobby poster from 1954 that's been graded 8.8/10. 75 ...

CroBro81 1y ago A red 1982 Mercedes-Benz 380SL Roadster. My dad came into some money and bought it about 10 years ago off its only owner. He's too old to take care of it now and handed it down to me early so he can see me enjoy it with my sons. It's probably the only thing he's ever given me in my 42 years since my parents split when I was 4, so it's a complicated gift. It's such a beautiful convertible, I take the boys for a spin whenever the weather's nice on a weekend. 52 ...
