15 of People’s Nominations for the Worst U.S. President of All Time

In case the majority of your day’s reading comes from Uber Eats menus, here’s some news: Things aren’t going great. America’s current status, whether economically, politically or even just in terms of basic global respect, could kindly be described as “a bit wobbly.” Where you lay the blame for this is up to you and your YouTube history, but it’s kind of the president’s job to own up to it. At one point, at least, the buck stopped there.

Of course, a bad president is nothing new, even if this is a particularly sour flavor of one. There have been commanders-in-chief going back in America’s history that are undeniably plumb awful. Wars on their watch, personal failings, economic devastation that sticks around long after their seat is cold.

In the Reddit thread below, users nominated their personal picks for the worst president of all time, and if you’re not a history buff, I can promise you this much: You’re about to have an opinion on James Buchanan.

TheMudbloodSlytherin Зу ago Edited Зу ago Grover Cleveland raped a woman, got her pregnant, promised to take of her and had her name the baby after a friend of his that passed away. Не had a doctor he knew deliver the baby, then kidnapped it and had his sister raise it. Then he had the woman committed to a mental institution. When all this came out, he painted her to be mentally unstable and a drunk. Не claimed she didn't know who the father was and had several men come forward and lie saying they all had been with her.
LFCSpectre Зу ago James Buchanan. The Civil War escalated to the levels that it did because of his inaction. His presidency was by far the most disastrous in history. He's at the bottom of every conceivable list. - 649 Award Share ...

icnoevil Зу ago Andrew Johnson for countermanding Gen. Sherman's Article 15 which gave 40 acres of land and a mule to the freed slaves. Johnson canceled the order and gave the land back to the former slave owners. Just think what a difference this would have made to the former slaves, who were already experts in farming. It would have given them an economic foundation for improving their lives and would linger today. And Johnson for staying drunk much of the time. - 1.2K Award Share ...
theglitch098 Зу ago I'm surprised no one has said Woodrow Wilson. Anyway Woodrow Wilson's polices and actions are still affecting the US today and not enough people know about what he did. Seriously look him up. In short he made WW1 last longer than it had to, contributed to the cause of WW2, was racists for his time (the twenties), was responsible for the idea of America getting involved in places it shouldn't. No exaggeration Wilson's ideals led to us interfering in the Vietnam war - 1.1K Award Share ...
Зу ago Ronald Reagan fucked this shit up 40 years ago and now we are seeing the trees of terror he planted bearing more and more fruit for fewer and fewer people. 1K Award Share ... Зу ago What a travesty Ronald Reagan isn't further up this thread. Goes to show he's still made of Teflon. Supply side economics has destroyed three middle class and upward mobility in America. Before Reagan companies used to focus on maintaining a healthy workforce, innovation, and took pride in being American companies. Now we have wage suppression, union busting, and short sighted
Зу ago Edited Зу ago Ronald Reagan. Trickle-down economics. Escalated the 'war-on-drugs' to include crack cocaine in inner cities. This in turn led to gross oversentencing of minorities (1:1,000 ratio of mandatory sentence between crack and powder cocaine) and 'tough on crime' laws passed in the 1990s. Began big businesses' dismantling of unions through his personal firing of all PATCO workers on strike in 1981. Failed to reform Social Security, including raising caps on taxing amounts, as early as 1983 when the first classified government reports of how Baby Boomers will destroy the system in old age came out.
HotStreak000 Зу ago Woodrow Wilson. I feel like on the outside looks like he had a good presidency. If you just scratch the surface, it starts to get bad. Racist, segregated Washington, way too idealistic. Was part of the root cause of why WW2 started. Treaty of Versailles, League of Nations. There are rumors that his wife, Edith, was running the Oval Office when he was dying. Probably circumventing executive authority. Also, Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan are up there too. Millard Fillmore is pretty low too. Honestly, the extremely poor or mediocre run of presidents leading up to the

amsterdam_BTS Зу ago Edited Зу ago Andrew Johnson. Destroyed reconstruction. Who knows what may have been had he not, but it's hard to imagine we'd be worse off. I think Bush Jr is in the worst 5, Trump as well, largely for the damage they did to the country's global standing but also thanks to the massive erosion of civil rights that took place under both (Patriot Act, anyone?). Lest you think I am hyper-partisan, I'm not a huge fan of Obama's either. Wasted opportunities at such a scale I cannot accept the premise that he just wasn't aware/had no
gwistix Зу ago Based on an aggregate scoring of the chart found here, which is based on surveys of presidential scholars (i.e., historians who are experts in the field of the presidency), Donald Trump is the worst president in U.S. history, followed by Warren G.
