28 Beloved Discontinued Items That Prove They Just Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To

When it comes to reminiscing about our younger years, it’s hard not to romanticize the past. An economy that wasn’t on the brink of collapse. Your ex-girlfriend from college. The general sense of optimism that radiated throughout the ‘90s — and evaporated quickly thereafter.

One Redditor’s nostalgia, however, is a lot more specific, centering on McDonald’s 39-cent hamburgers. “We were treated on those days and felt we ate like kings,” they recalled of the now-unfathomable fast-food deal. “It wasn’t until later I realized ‘those treat days’ were specific because my parents were broke.”

Considering our newfound financial turmoil, it makes sense that we’d yearn for a time when we didn’t know how good we had it, and mourn the loss of some discontinued items of yesteryear, the best of which include Altoids Sours, Toys “R” Us and of course, BIONICLE.
