TV and movies are already a nice little escape from our day-to-day lives, but if you’re looking for a much deeper form of escapism, look no further than a great animated series or film. Those lame live-action movies and shows mostly end up in an office or in a Starbucks, but animated ones take us to wildly wacky worlds that look nothing like our own.

Toy Story 3

Cars' Lightning McQueen is an homage to a Pixar animator who passed away. His name was Glenn McQueen, and he worked at Pixar from 1994 to his death in 2002. Pixar also dedicated its 2003 movie (Finding Nemo) to him. CRACKED.COM

A regular Pixar driver figured out early on that Pixar was making a Black movie. SOUL PIXAR Disney Pixar uses a car service to pick up visitors, and a driver (who was Black) figured out Soul was a Black movie because he was driving so many Black people. CRACKED.COM

Sarah Michelle Gellar is Seventh Sister STAR WARS REBELS Sarah Michelle Gellar might not be slaying vampires as Buffy anymore, but she still sates her wanton bloodlust as the Seventh Sister Inquisitor on Star Wars Rebels. In 1929, the characters of the comic strip Thimble Theater needed a crew for their boat, so they hired this grizzled, one-eyed sailor they met on the docks. Harley Quinn was created to wheel in a cake. For an episode of Batman: The Animated Series, writer Paul Dini needed someone to bring a big cake for Joker to burst out of-so he gave him a female henchman, in the style of 1960s villains. The Smurfs were throwaway characters. The Belgian comic Johan and Peewit had been running for six years when the little blue fellas showed up as a part of a specific story.
