22 Movies They Made Three Times in One Year

“Twin movies happen a lot,” Redditor Chewie83 recently reminded r/Movies. “Friends with Benefits and No Strings AttachedVolcano and Dante’s PeakA Bug’s Life and Antz. Etc.” This can drag both movies down if they’re so similar that audiences can’t tell the difference, but it can also disproportionately harm one movie if it’s clearly superior (like Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…  in Hollywood versus that dogshit The Haunting of Sharon Tate).

But occasionally, a trio of movies can enter theaters and all fail. “In 1989, the box office performance of The Abyss was famously hurt by two other deep sea movies — bad ones — that came out the same year: Leviathan and Deep Star Six. Has this happened any other time?”

Oh, has it.

NpPro93 8mo ago 2006 is obviously known for the twins The Prestige and The Illusionist, but there was a third magic movie, Woody Allen 's dogshit Scoop, which also came out that year (and also starred Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson coincidentally)
Technical-Outside408 8mo ago In 1994 there were three movies where two younger women killed an older woman. Sister My Sister, based on a true story. Heavenly Creatures, based on a true story (directed by Peter Jackson ) ). And finally Fun, not based on a true story, but it's depressing enough.

Vin-Metal 8mo ago There were the three multiverse movies that came out fairly close together: two were Marvel, Spiderman and Dr. Strange, and the other was Everything Everywhere All at Once Though EEAAO was the best of the three as a movie, I felt like Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness perhaps best explored the concept of Multiverse. And then too I loved the way Spiderman Into the Multiverse made use of the past Spiderman movies. That was a lot of fun.
Indigolguana439 8mo ago Yes very recently we've had The Beekeeper, The Bricklayer, and The Painter. All generally the same concept of jason Stratham or someone pretending to be him has a particular set of skills they don't use anymore because they've turned a new leaf but have to get back into the game to take down some bad bad no good fellas.
ShanklyGates_2022 8mo ago Not that any of them would have been blockbusters anyways, but Without Limits, Prefontaine, and Fire on the Track all came out within a year or so of each other if i recall correctly. Without Limits is by far the best of them but it probably got overlooked a bit bc it was the last of them to come out, and a third movie/doc about a famous long-distance runner from the 70s is obviously gonna bore some people at the box office. too bad though, because Pre was a great athlete and an entertaining character, gone far
brycepunk1 8mo ago There were three Made For TV movies about Amy Fischer and Joey Buttefuco that came out on the three major networks in the same week, two played at the same time on the same night (one with Allysa Milano, the other with Drew Barrymore . It was fun flipping between them.
