20 of the Most Useless Fictional Characters

Not everyone has to be the main character, but they do have to be some kind of character. They can be the sassy best friend who dishes out the advice and encouragement the protagonist needs to move the plot forward, the villain thwarting them at every step, even the love interest who mostly just stands around looking hot, but they should do something. Lots of people in your life might be just kind of there, but that doesn’t fly in fiction.

Which is why a useless character is absolutely maddening, especially to user StarGuardianSnowFox. For example, “so many people have said Captain Marvel from the Marvel franchise, but Vision was absolute garbage,” they told r/AskReddit. “I mean, in Civil War, you can see him in some shots just… FLOATING THERE. And then the only thing he does is shoot a laser or something, MISS, and ends up paralyzing James Rhodes (Iron Patriot). Vis has always been my top pick for useless characters.”

They then asked, “What fictional character do you think was absolutely useless?” and their fellow Redditors proved anything but.

Ryukotaicho 4y ago Most of the humans in any transformers franchises
4y ago The joker in suicide squad. Take all scenes with him out and the movie still makes sense, still crap though.
NuConcept 4y ago Booster from Jingle All The Way - NOBODY likes Booster.
Baranade 4y ago Dory in Finding Nemo How she got her own sequel is beyond me
4y ago Vision.... Не did nothing but make things more difficult and get stabbed
Oh_hi_doggi3 4y ago Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Such a wasted character, he's only there to die.
I_might_be_weasel 4y ago Preston Garvey still infuriates me. Hey violence prone guy I just met, you're now the leader of the organization I dedicated my life to!
zero-pris-3 4y ago Virtually every character from the first sixty seconds of a Doctor Who episode. What was that noise?? Oh nooooo I died.
cub3dworld 4y ago Mary Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, which I guess was the whole point of her being the OG middle child stereotype.
PluralRural4334 4y ago Jack Hunter from Boy Meets World (played by Matthew Lawrence). Не basically existed to balance out Eric, which resulted in an extremely boring character.
4y ago Lori Grimes. Absolute last person I would want to be stuck in a zombie apocalypse with she was nothing but an inconvenience in every way
Negative0 4y ago Edited 4y ago Annie from the Magic Treehouse books. She always screwed things up for Jack and made the situations worse.
Nebraskan- 4y ago Princess Buttercup. Obviously she's important to the story but as a person she's just useless. As an example, when Westley's being attacked by the ROUS- you can't grab a stick or SOMETHING?
xSTSxZerglingOne 4y ago Olaf in Frozen. He's so beloved and I just don't get it. Не does nothing of note, the characters ignore him 90% of the time he says anything, and if you cut him out of the movie, you wouldn't even notice. He's like a walking Family Guy cutaway.
4y ago Fabian from Pulp Fiction. Damnit woman, Butch told you how important that watch was. Stop obsessing over what you're gonna eat for breakfast and focus.
AvatarTreeFiddy 4y ago Mark Brendonowitz (if that's even how you spell his name) from Parks and Rec It felt like he was supposed to be the token normal guy to contrast from everyone else's craziness, kind of like Jim and Pam from the Office. But while those two actually had their own personalities and character development and often got involved with the surrounding wackiness, Mark was just kind of there and never really seemed to be too involved with the overall plot. Не even left the show pretty unceremoniously. Seems like even the writers saw the character as useless, given
peachkisxes 4y ago DeAngelo from the office 100%. i dont even remember if DeAngelo was his first name or last name, thats how useless he was. i dont even know if im spelling the damn name right but i dont care cause he was just- idek what he was.
4y ago Sasuke Uchiha failed at virtually everything he set out to do with his life. First, he vowed to kill his brother and ran out of power in the middle of the fight. Itachi used Susano'o to drain the rest of his own lifeforce and died. Even before that, he stopped Orochimaru from taking over Sasuke's Body. Next, he learned the truth about his brother and vowed to kill everyone in Konoha. Не killed Danzo, just barely. Then he vowed to become Hokage. Naruto beat the living heck out of him.
Kpaw57 4y ago Harry Strickland, commander of the Golden Company. After hearing about this great army, all he does is sit on a horse and end up getting his army incinerated by a dragon and him dying while running for his life.
B_Stache 4y ago Caillou Fuckin hate that kid.
