20 Products for Women That Had to Be Designed By Men

Not to play Oppression Olympics, but women are the only minority that isn’t actually a minority in the U.S. They’ve somehow managed to become subjugated despite being most of the population — only barely, but most nevertheless. It’s honestly kind of embarrassing. You’d think they’d have risen up in revolt by now, but they’re just too tired. That’s how they get you.

One of the reasons they’re too tired is, being a majority minority, a large part of the economy is targeted at them, but that economy is run by men. That means they’re constantly dealing with products ostensibly designed explicitly for them but by someone who has no idea how they use it. As a result, when user LuinAelin asked r/AskReddit, “What is something designed for women that has obviously been designed by a man?” female Redditors had plenty of examples in mind.

justputonsomemusic 6mo ago The chainsaw. I wish I never knew this fact.
JavaScriptPenguin 6mo ago Made for women porn
maridska 6mo ago Leggings with a seam in the crotch.
DeeLite04 6mo ago Sports bras and their removable pads
AJWeddy123 6mo ago Women's Razors. Men's work better and last much longer for some reason. I never buy women's.
AggressiveSea7035 6mo ago Manual breast pump (for pumping breast milk). The handle was too large to comfortably use with one hand, I could barely fit my hand around it.
123-91-1 6mo ago Women's power tools. They are just a pink version of the men's tools, or they are just a less powerful version. No redesign of the weight, shape, or grip size to make them easier to hold for our body shapes, just a pink tax.
Westsidepipeway 6mo ago Bicycle seats. Standard are male seats, when on most women's bikes. I had to buy a female seat for my brompton. The comfort difference is insane when you're doing more than a few km cycle.
Extremely_unlikeable 6mo ago Women's motorcycle boots, gloves, and even shirts. Guess what - We're not all passengers! We need properly functioning clothes that fit! I need boots with good tread that won't get torn up on top from shifting. I'd like as many options for day-glo colored shirts as men have in their sizes - not rhinestones and dreamcatchers!
unicorns3373 6mo ago Public bathrooms. There are never enough stalls for the women's bathrooms because they just make them like the men's rooms even though women take longer to use the bathroom and men also have the option of urinals. So women just wait in long ridiculous lines and it's so annoying!
tenaciouslyteetering 6mo ago Button down shirts that don't account for breasts and if you CAN button it all the way up you have these huge gaps and stretching between the buttons.
Ashi4Days 6mo ago I think I remember seeing this thing about girl climbing pants and how they were designed by men. Basically the pants were designed to sit around the waist so for girls who were climbing. The pants would always ride down. Eventually someone made pants that were higher on the hips (think high waisted jeans) and as a result the pants were a lot more comfortable and suited for rock climbing activity.
CaptainMeredith 6mo ago Socks. I'm a transman, and did not realize how much of a discrepancy this was until I swapped. I now have to buy Boys socks because men's are too big for me - but the fabric is like 100 times thicker than the thickest women's or girls sock I ever owned. They are actually durable, and are enough fabric to actually absorb sweat from your feat. Why the Fuck are women's socks made of flimsy barely there fabrics??? Seriously ladies, especially those of you with cold feet? Try some Real Socks some time and see what you think.
VeganMonkey 6mo ago Underwear, because it nearly never fits. Always rides up. Especially when those high cut 80s things came out there were no proper fitting ones anymore, eventually I found boyleg undies, but they are still different from what they used to make. Plus the double fabric is in the wrong place. Definitely must be designed by men, women wouldn't do that.
o_MrBombastic_o 6mo ago I'm in fencing women have to where plastic chest protectors. There's basically 2 sizes child and adult. They were designed by a guy who saw a women's chest in a Sears catalog 1 time
Jerkrollatex 6mo ago There is a patent for labia glue that dissolves when you pee on it do use while on your period to hold the blood in. A male chiropractor invented and tried to sell it. So that.
yttiksesom2 6mo ago When you get a needle biopsy, you have to lie on a cold formica table with a sharp edged hole W yr breast dangling through it. The first time I had to do this, we (me, women docs and nurses) all commented on the terrible design of the thing. When I has another needle biopsy a few years later, the table had been redesigned. It was now pink.
Polite_lyreal 6mo ago Pants. Why don't any of them have fucking pockets??
