Elon Musk Has Been Ghosting Jon Stewart on Social Media

It’s been over a month since Elon Musk volunteered, then promptly un-volunteered, to appear as a guest on The Daily Show, following Jon Stewart’s impassioned, surprisingly bloody, takedown of Musk’s government cuts. And while the weeks may feel even longer in 2025 time, clearly Stewart hasn’t forgotten about this.
On the most recent episode of his podcast The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart, a listener wrote in to ask, “Hey John, whatever happened to Elon coming on The Daily Show?”
Don't Miss
“Oh, he came on, and it was great. I thought It was a productive conversation,” Stewart joked.

“I guess we did a bid on DOGE, and I obviously came up with all kinds of billions of dollars that we could save from subsidies and corporate things and blah, blah, blah. That was the real cost savings to me,” the host explained. “He said, ‘I'll come on the show if you air it unedited.’ And we went, ‘Sure, fine. That’s how most of them air, so sure, what the fuck?’ And then he said, like, ‘Ah, you’re a propagandist.’ And he started to back away and, and I said, ‘Look, you come on or don’t come on, but don’t pretend like it’s I don’t live up to a standard.”
While most of this played out on The Daily Show itself, Stewart revealed for the first that he personally reached out to Elon — but got no response. “I did DM him,” Stewart admitted. “Is that a thing? I texted him and just said like, ‘Hey man, so is there somebody I should, you know, have our guys reach out to, to make this happen?’ And I got ghosted. I got left on read, man.”
His podcast co-hosts gasped, but Stewart acknowledge that he’s not the only person to get ghosted by Musk. “Judging from his most recent revelations (about) his baby mamas, I think everyone has been left on read at some point by that gentleman,” he acknowledged, saying of the hypothetical interview, “I don’t imagine it will (happen). I would be surprised.”
Recently it was reported that Musk will be stepping back from his government role, due to Tesla’s “huge drop in profit and sales for the start of this year.” And as the podcast’s producer Lauren Walker pointed out, that may be part of the reason why the billionaire won’t return Stewart’s texts. “I think I have some bad news,” Walker told Stewart, “because I was reading that one of the reasons he’s claiming (that) he’s leaving government is the nasty and unethical attacks from the left. So that might be why you’re on read.”
“Completely. I’m sure undeserved (and) in no way reflective of standing on a stage with a chainsaw celebrating the loss of livelihoods for tens of thousands of well-intentioned government workers. I’m sure,” Stewart fired back, adding that “if there’s one thing that this administration does better than anybody I’ve ever seen, it’s play the victim. I’ve never seen any people ever, including when my kids were three and two years old, evade accountability and responsibility and blame others in the way that these people do. It’s truly shameless.”
Of course, comparing small children to Elon Musk may not be entirely fair, since kids aren’t afraid to appear on camera with Stewart.
