14 Beefing Celebrities Who Buried the Hatchet

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are the First Family of Beef

Life’s too short for insanely rich people to stay mad about the stuff that ticked them off when they were just a little rich.

Crispin Glover and Jeffrey Weissman

When Glover held out for more money to appear in Back to the Future Part II, the director found a workaround: hire another actor, Jeffrey Weissman, and slap prosthetics on him until he looked like Crispin Glover. Glover sued the filmmakers for $760,000, but later became friends with his pseudo-doppelganger.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry

The two up-and-coming pop stars were friends for a while, but it all came crumbling down when some of Swift’s dancers abandoned ship and went on tour with Perry in 2013. They made up five years later, but now they’re a billionaire and a billionaire’s space friend, respectively, so perhaps they’ve both sucked all along.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie

The two were friends since childhood, but tension built as Hilton’s star rose higher than Richie’s during The Simple Life. Rumor has it that Richie held a screening of Hilton’s sex tape while Hilton was hosting Saturday Night Live in 2005, causing private beef to spill over into public disdain. Over the years, the two would occasionally trade social media niceties or make joint public appearances, and by 2021, they were photographed enjoying each other’s company at Hilton’s wedding.

Drake Bell and Josh Peck

The stars of Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh had a public falling out when Josh didn’t invite Drake to his wedding, causing the latter to drop some grievance bombs on Twitter. They reconciled a few months later at the VMAs.

Madonna and Elton John

In 2002, Elton John dunked on Madonna for the Die Another Day theme song, sparking a decades-long feud. John appeared on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, and Madonna visited him backstage specifically to mend their relationship.

Madonna and Lady Gaga

Madonna had been attacking Gaga in the press since 2011’s “Born This Way,” calling her whole shtick “reductive” (presumably of Madonna’s shtick). Madonna once again went behind the scenes to patch things up, posting affectionate pictures of the two of them at the 2019 Oscars.

Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty

The Beverly Hills, 90210 costars famously hated each other during production, with Garth saying “we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out.” Doherty’s breast cancer diagnosis drew them back together in 2015, and the two remained close until her death in 2024.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato

The two basically shared a career in their youth, performing together on Barney & Friends and later starting a YouTube channel. But as their brains developed, they started battling personal demons and feuding amongst themselves. Once their frontal lobes finished cooking, they publicly made up.

Will Smith and Janet Hubert

Hubert was reportedly pretty tough to work with, with Smith saying in 1993, “Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air. … She’s mad now, but she’s been mad all along.” The two made up at a 2020 reunion, when Hubert revealed she had been enduring a difficult pregnancy at the time, and Smith said, “Now that I’ve had three kids, I learned some things that I did not know at the time, and I would do things very differently today.”

Gabrielle Union and Jada Pinkett Smith

The two publicly feuded for 17 years, but they finally laid it all out on Red Table Talk and found they didn’t even know why they hated each other. Smith said, “We were great associates that at some point dissolved,” while Union said their reconciliation “was like a gorilla hopped off my back that I didn’t know was there.”

Seth Rogen and Justin Bieber

Rogen went on a bit of a media blitz in 2014, dunking on Bieber to talk show hosts and his Twitter followers every chance he got. Bieber publicly declared his admiration for Rogen, who finally softened a bit. The following year, they hugged it out on Ellen (a grotesquely 2015 sentence, I know), when Bieber made a surprise appearance wearing a Seth Rogen mask.

Pink and Christina Aguilera

The two collaborated on a remake of “Lady Marmalade” for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack in 2001, kicking off over a decade of beef. Pink claims Aguilera punched her at a nightclub, for example. The two publicly reconciled on Season 10 of The Voice, 15 years later.

Jay Leno and David Letterman

The dueling Johnny Carson proteges went from colleagues to mortal enemies in 1992 when Leno was chosen to take over The Tonight Show. The next decades of their careers would be defined by their loathing of one another. But as they’ve slid into obscurity, and each has been revealed to be a horrible weirdo, they’ve thrown their differences aside and banded together like two shipwreck victims bobbing up and down in an unforgiving ocean.

Blink-182

Creative differences broke the band up in 2005, but they’d go on to reunite whenever a member experienced a life-shattering event: first in 2009 after Travis Barker almost died in a plane crash, and they’ve been playing together since 2022 when Mark Hoppus publicly announced his battle with cancer.
