5 Actors Who Stole Iconic Movie Props

At the end of the day, actors are just people. Conveniently, that’s also the time of day when everybody is least likely to notice a memento or two go missing, because people like keepsakes. Can you really blame some of them for sneaking off with an incredibly cool prop or two? Don’t act like you wouldn’t.

Jason Isaacs Stole a Copy of ‘The Daily Prophet’

Emboldened by the light-fingered Alan Rickman, who stole a bunch of gold coins from the wizard bank (for charity!), the vessel of Lucius Malfoy decided to swipe a copy of the paper of record in the wizarding world, The Daily Prophet, from the set of a Harry Potter film for a friend who wanted one. Unfortunately, he was caught almost immediately by a security guard at the end of the day, who told him, “Night, Jason. Give us the Daily Prophet back. Everyone knows.”

Eddie Redmayne Stole Newt Scamander’s Briefcase

Not everyone from the wizarding world is so unslick. There’s possibly no more iconic relic of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films outside of the sexual tension between Dumbledore and Grindelwald than the briefcase where Newt Scamander improbably carries his many fanciful creatures, but in 2022, Redmayne managed to make off with it. “Tell no one,” he ordered The Hollywood Reporter, far too late.

Chris Hemsworth Stole (And Lost) Thor’s Hammer

Being asked to play Thor and then not keep the hammer is an unwinnable morality test, but Hemsworth has taken not one, not two, but five hammers from various Marvel films, so that’s just greedy. In fact, he managed to misplace the original hammer after shooting a documentary with a friend and leaving it at her house. “(She) called me and said, ‘Is this yours?’” he remembered.

Adam Driver Stole a Lightsaber

What we said about Thor’s hammer goes tenfold for a lightsaber, but to be fair, Driver is a serial set stealer. He admitted he tries to take something from every movie he works on, which included two helmets and a lightsaber from the set of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. “I wear my helmets when I drive just to confuse people,” he said, and it’s not at all clear if he was joking.

Someone Stole $75,000 of Sex Toys From ‘Pain & Gain’

If you didn’t see the bodybuilding crime caper starring Marky Mark and the Rock called Pain & Gain, all you need to know for our purposes is that it features a warehouse full of sex toys. “We bought $75,000 worth of sex toys,” director Michael Bay said. “We were going to return all the sex toys to get three-quarters of our money back, but they started disappearing.” Soon, they had almost all disappeared. “We were like, ‘Who is taking the sex toys?’”

Honestly, it serves them right. It doesn’t matter if they weren’t actually used -- you do not return sex toys.
