‘Abbott Elementary’s William Stanford Davis Says the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Half of the Series’ Crossover Is ‘Pretty Crazy’

The first installment of the Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover event may have brought us a semi-literate Charlie Kelly, a piss-soaked Frank Reynolds and a one-legged love triangle between Janine Teagues, Gregory Eddie and a delusional Dee Reynolds, but the worst is still yet to come, according to William Stanford Davis.

Davis, who plays custodian Mr. Johnson on the beloved ABC sitcom, recently teased what fans can expect on the Sunny side of the series’ collaboration, revealing that the FX(X) take on the crossover is a whole lot less family-friendly than January’s “Volunteers.”

“You got saints and sinners everywhere,” Davis explained during a recent sitdown with Collider

Taking care to note that “Abbott is the saint part of it,” Davis remained largely tight-lipped on the specifics of the episode. “I’d get in trouble,” he joked.

Even so, he still managed to drop a few hints at what fans can expect during the second episode, which is set to air as a part of It’s Always Sunny’s upcoming 17th season. “I can’t tell you what these guys are going to be doing, but it’s pretty crazy,” he said.

Sworn to secrecy about what The Gang’s side of the story might entail, Davis was able to share some less-classified intel about the upcoming episode: his experience working alongside the legendary Danny DeVito. “The time I spent with Danny DeVito was, really, just outstanding,” Davis continued, dubbing the famously 5-foot actor as “such a giant man” and a “giant professional.” “I just had a ball."

We don’t know how many crossover episodes these two shows have left on this Earth, but as Frank would say, we’re glad they could get real weird with it.
