The Voice of Bart Simpson Says She Basically ‘Burps and Farts’ for a Living

It turns out that voicing Bart Simpson is more than just yelling “¡Ay, caramba!” “eat my shorts!” and “I’m Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?” into a microphone: There’s a whole lot of flatulence, too, according to voice actress Nancy Cartwright.

The comedy staple, who has offered her vocal chops to The Simpsons’ eldest since the animated family’s Tracey Ullman days, recently dropped by “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan’s new YouTube series where she got candid about the guts — and gas — it takes to bring Bart to life.

“What do I do for a living? I’ll put it in three words,” Cartwright told Milan in her signature Bart voice. “I burp and fart for a living.” Far surpassing her self-imposed three-word limit, Cartwright still managed to stand by such scatalogical work. “It’s a nice gig,” she continued, reverting to her normal tone as Millan giggled by her side.

Cartwright followed this up with some words of wisdom to her fellow “artists”: You don’t need FOX money to follow your passions. “If you can’t get paid to do what you love, you should always still do what you love,” she explained. “It’s a big game, and there are a lot of people that don’t want you to win.”

Cartwright isn’t wrong. Artists should go after their passions — though it’s a lot easier when you’re making $400,000 per episode to fart and burp on cue.
