20 TV Series That Eventually Became Completely Different Shows

Television has been a thing for about 100 years at this point, and some TV shows feel like they’ve been running just as long. Sure, the prestige limited series is becoming more and more popular, but for most TV shows, the ultimate goal is to ride that renewal for as long as possible. That’s why so many series feel like they’re just pulling whatever they can out of their asses to extend a plotline that seems like it should have been wrapped up by now — that’s exactly what they’re doing.

That also means that, over the course of a series, its tone, subject matter and even entire cast of characters can completely change. It can happen so slowly that you don’t even notice until you sit down for a rewatch and realize, “Wait, this started as an entirely different show.”

That’s why user TheKitteh27 asked r/AskReddit, “What TV show started normal enough but eventually became so crazy that it in no way resembled the earlier parts of it?”
