‘Severance’ Fans Flame Viewer Who Says the Show Is Better When You Skip Through It

Few shows reward careful viewing more than Severance, a virtual treasure chest full of visual Easter eggs for any fan observant and patient enough to discover them. Don’t believe me? Check out the r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus subreddit for clues that internet detectives are discovering in the show’s margins. They won’t be revealed here — spoiler alerts and all — but the show is happy to reward obsessives and their frame-by-frame deep dives.
Don’t tell that to Redditor u/eustachian_lube, though — they’re convinced that there’s a better way to consume Ben Stiller’s show. “I watch Severance at 1.5x with my finger on the ‘forward 10 seconds’ button and I miss literally nothing,” they posted. “Slow-ass show whose episodes only exist to present 1 piece of information and trick you into thinking it’s good because of money thrown at set design and making them speak funny.”
As you might expect, that unusual bit of viewing advice brought some heat in the r/Television subreddit. Many of the show’s fans fired up their flamethrowers to roast the OP — “the one dude who is furious Quibi went under,” according to user HeroProtagonist4.
Don't Miss
“Awww, do we need to put it into a Instagram reel or a tiktok for you so you stay engaged?” offered ModernArgonauts.
“It’s called tension building, my friend,” wrote u/kfretlessz. “Maybe take some Adderall.”
“It’s not about solving the mystery and getting a clue,” argued romaki. “I’m glad Severance takes its time and gives characters more backstory before moving the plot forward, why should there be a rush? Would you prefer 8 episode seasons? I’d rather learn more about the world and its characters before we say goodbye to it forever.”
“Absolute rage bait posting with this shit,” concluded jrunicl.
Eustachian_lube wasn’t completely on an island, however. While no one else was advocating a speedwatch as the best way to enjoy Severance, a few users agreed that the show’s recent run of episodes has moved at too leisurely a pace for their liking. “Season 2 is far too slow imho,” griped SporadicSheep. “Eight episodes in, what’s happened?”
But that was the minority view. Several Redditors wondered why eustachian_lube bothered at all with that unusual fast-forward method — if someone doesn’t like the show, there are plenty of other fish in the streaming sea. “Perhaps this show isn’t a good fit for you,” Calcutec_1 offered charitably.
“Do something you enjoy instead?” suggested frazzlet. “What do you want us to do?”
“Watch something else,” advised grouchomarks.
The consensus opinion: Not watching Severance at all makes way more sense than a high-speed hate-watch. “The funny part,” said jogoso2014, “is OP speeding up watching a show they don’t think is good.”
