‘Lord Gaga’ Roasts Colin Jost Over How Much More Money Scarlett Johansson Makes Than Him

Colin Jost’s Saturday Night Live business card must list “Comedy Punching Bag” as his occupation. The comedian with the Very Punchable Face continues to get lit up by his castmates, both on and off the live comedy show.

Everyone is in on the act. Sarah Sherman broke through on SNL by taunting Jost (“You’re a pedophile!”). Jost and Che take turns making each other say horrible things during their semiannual Weeked Update joke swaps, and Che took it a step further recently by using his Instagram Stories to label his partner a racist idiot. And this week, fellow bland white guy Mikey Day joined Jost on Weekend Update to emasculate the guy yet again.

With Lady Gaga as host, Day appeared as Lord Gaga, the entertainer’s spouse and indifferent supporter. The bit starts as an eye-roller, with Lord Gaga delivering a series of groan-inducing jokes based on Lady Gaga song titles. (On how she became a Lady: “She married a lord. That’s how she became a Gaga. Whereas I was simply… born this way.”)

Part of the gag is that Lord Gaga has no idea how successful his wife is. He simply has no time to follow her little singing career since he spends so much time running the family’s textile empire. While she gets paid for her music career, it pales in comparison to the riches his business brings in. It’s how the world was meant to be.

“Oh, can you imagine, Colin — a man whose wife makes more money than he?” Lord Gaga asks Jost, a man whose wife commands up to $20 million per movie. “Can you imagine!? Oh, the shame he would feel!”

As Jost sheepishly averts his eyes off-camera, an agitated Lord Gaga repeatedly sticks in the knife. “Imagine if I was sitting here on television behind this desk, staring at that camera, the world staring back at me, knowing that my wife’s income dwarfs my own! I would die. What a living nightmare!”

As Jost does a slow burn, Lord Gaga tries to find his composure, overwhelmed by the idea that a woman could make more money than her husband. Finally over his freakout, he rights himself and turns his attention to Jost.

“Now tell me, what does your wife do?”
