Rob McElhenney Warned New Orleans That Their Poles Weren’t Greased Enough to Stop His Power

The Philadelphia Eagles are, once again, Super Bowl champions — God knows what fresh hell Charlie went through for this one.

The Birds’ dominant display of power over the Kansas City Chiefs last night once again proved that 2025 is the year of Philadelphia flexing its biceps (among other masculine organs) all over America’s asses. Last month, the two top sitcoms in Philly history, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary, double-teamed ABC audiences with the first half of a crosstown crossover special, and, this past weekend, the stars of both shows flocked to New Orleans to watch the Eagles blast some Kansas City ass in a lopsided 40-22 Super Bowl win.

Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson were obviously in attendance during the Big Game last night — as was Tom Brady, presumably healed from his pink eye — but before the Always Sunny power couple guzzled down their riot punch and snuck into the Superdome through whichever secret hotel tunnel they discovered in the Big Easy, McElhenney warned New Orleans that they weren’t ready for the brutality Philly fans were about to bring to their city:

As many native New Orleanians pointed out, the reporting in the post to which the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star suggestively replied was off-base, as New Orleans, also a city known for its rowdiness, didnt make history in its preparations for partying/rioting Philly fans. New Orleans historic Bourbon Street greases its poles every year for Mardi Gras, presumably before giving up the sinful practice for Lent.

Sadly, it appears that McElhenney didnt follow through with his threat to climb the poles of Bourbon Street in the South Philly tradition based on the fact that we havent seen hundreds of Twitter, Instagram and Reddit posts from other Eagles fans visiting New Orleans for the Big Game showing the Bird of War perched on a streetlight. However, back home in Philadelphia, Philly fans continue to live up to their brutal reputation — so far, police have arrested 47 Eagles faithfuls for breaking various laws during the post-Super Bowl celebrations.

With any luck, the city of Philadelphia will live-stream the many trials to come — we all know how funny The Gang gets in a court room.
