Before Launching ‘South Park,’ Matt Stone and Trey Parker Used to Fart on Celebrities for Fun
Contrary to the complaints of conservative moms everywhere, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker aren’t only writing out of their asses when they’re coming up with the show’s countless fart jokes — just ask the host of stars who smelt what the duo dealt during their earliest days in Hollywood.
In a newly rediscovered interview from 1998, the adult animation titans got candid about their pre-fame hobbies — in particular, divulging to talk-show host Dennis Miller their passion for crop-dusting Hollywood’s rich and famous. “When we came to L.A., we were such losers that our favorite thing to do was to go to bars and try to find someone famous and fart on them and get a picture of it,” Parker told the former SNL Weekend Update anchor.
They cited Richard Dreyfus as a particularly good sport during his sulfur-infused photo-op. “(I) took this picture figuring it would just be a blue bur of his shirt, ‘Here’s Trey farting on Richard Dreyfus,’ but it turned out pretty good,” Stone recalled of the actor’s Close Encounter of the Turd Kind.

Meanwhile, the superlative for stiffest upper nostril went to none other than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s resident trash man, Danny DeVito.
“The best was Danny DeVito,” Parker explained, noting how the comedian’s famed 4-foot-10 stature made him a prime target for their olfactory antics. “I mean, he’s just right there, my ass.”
The sweet smell of success has never been so foul.
