Fan Reimagines Every ‘Oscars’ Best Picture Nominee Through the Lens of 'It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’
Unfortunately, the honor of “Most It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia-Coded Movie of 2024” will be a nine-way tie between all the nominees in the Academy Awards’ Best Picture category that don’t win it.
As every fan of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows, the show has a strained relationship with the snobs and tastemakers of the awards-voting Hollywood elite. Despite the fact that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the longest-running live-action sitcom in American history and arguably the only sitcom to maintain a consistently high level of humor through sixteen seasons, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has only given the show three measly nominations and zero wins, all in the category of Outstanding Stunt Coordination – a point which Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton and Danny DeVito are compelled to bring up whenever the Emmys ask them to present someone else with a trophy.
Don't Miss
However, one cinephilic member of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia subreddit going by the handle bikeWasowskiii4_3 felt that, in lieu of The Gang finally winning a major award after so many years of desperately trying to do so, the best way to add prestige the name of Paddy’s Pub was to reimagine the recently announced nominees for Best Picture at this year's Oscars ceremony in the style of Always Sunny:
In an honorable mention of the Colman Domingo-led drama Sing Sing, which told the real-life story of incarcerated artists putting on theater productions, bikeWasowskiii4_3 wrote “RIP to my baby that missed the Top 10” in the comments of their incredible post, adding a picture of the full Always Sunny cast onstage during “The Nightman Cometh.”
It goes without saying that every one of bikeWasowskiii4_3's creations is an absolute banger worthy of its own award, especially their side-eyed selection for Emilia Pérez, a film that somehow tried to tell a story about Mexican people living in Mexico with almost zero consultation or inclusion of, you know, Mexican people.
Isn't it strange how Hulu banned “The Gang Recycles Their Trash” for showing Dee in intentionally poor-taste brownface, but Emilia Pérez gets 13 Oscar nominations without hiring more than one actor who can speak Spanish in a convincing Mexican accent? What's happening over there?
