‘Pigeon Man’ from ‘Hey Arnold’ is a classic
Cartoons tend to be dismissed as the domain of little babies and the merely emotionally stunted, and to be fair, they largely are. They tend to fall into one of three categories: actual children’s shows, actual children’s shows but they swear a lot, and existential ruminations that have to work so hard to be taken seriously that they probably would have been better off in live action.
It’s largely from that latter category that the best episodes of animated television come from, but not always. Even baby shows can get surprisingly deep or just make you laugh harder than any primetime sitcom ever has.
