‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Fans Are Seething Amid Dennis Reynolds’ Absence From ‘Abbott Elementary’ Crossover
Abbott Elementary’s long-anticipated crossover with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia seemingly had it all: Bird law. Extortion. A piss-soaked Frank Reynolds falling victim to a raccoon trap of his own design.
But despite all the bells, whistles and pelt-filled cages, there was still something missing from the first installment of the beloved series’ highly-anticipated collaboration: more than a fleeting glimpse of The Gang’s resident Five-Star Man, Dennis Reynolds.
Don't Miss
Only visible for a handful of seconds throughout the 22-minute runtime of “Volunteers,” the Golden God took after his self-anointed nickname, serving as more of a phantom-like presence than an actual character, a gag that seemingly riffs on his alleged penchant for sex-pest pastimes.
“No, I don’t think so,” Dennis said moments after noticing the school’s in-universe film crew. “I know quite a bit about filming and consent, and I think I’ll be spending my time on the other side of the camera, thank you very much.”
But this explanation — and, of course, its implications — didn’t satisfy some It’s Always Sunny fans, several of whom took to social media to bemoan the crossover’s tangible lack of Dennis.
“WHERE THE FUCK IS DENNIS”! asked Twitter user @onthecrosslook, while fanpage @whorewerton also all caps-lamented his absence. “NO DENNIS” they wrote.
@cosmicoraline, however, opted to look on the bright side. “Dennis was only in the episode for like a minute but at least they taught Charlie to read.”
As several other It’s Always Sunny fans noted, we still may be able to catch Dennis roaming Abbott Elementary’s hallowed halls when the crossover’s second part eventually airs as a part of the FXX series.
Still, it’s clearly obvious how much his presence was missed. As @kkittenmittons so aptly put it, “The people yearn for you, Dennis appearance in Abbott/Sunny crossover.”
