Did the Golden Globes Accidentally Send An Invitation to the Wrong Will Smith?

Are we positive that the Golden Globe Foundation is full of baseball fans?
Did the Golden Globes Accidentally Send An Invitation to the Wrong Will Smith?

Will Smith and his wife were welcome guests at this past weekend’s Golden Globe Awards — I guess the Golden Globe Foundation felt that they needed a slap hitter in their lineup.

To anyone who hasn’t been paying attention to Major League Baseball in the past few years, it may surprise you to learn that there is another famous and successful Will Smith living in Los Angeles whose big swings on the biggest stages are a bit more beloved by the City of Angels than those of the Man in Black. William Dills Smith is the starting catcher for the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and both Smith and his wife Cara were delighted to attend the star-studded awards ceremony on Sunday night, an event where he thankfully didn’t show off any of his right-handed power.

When some baseball fans saw that the Dodgers’ Will Smith was in attendance at the Golden Globes, they sincerely wondered whether the event organizers knew which Will Smith they were getting. Are we sure they didn’t mean to invite the pitcher from Kansas City?

While it certainly isnt outside the realm of possibility that an organization based in Hollywood would want to celebrate the Dodgers achievements this past year by inviting one of the players from the championship team to the Golden Globes, theres something slightly suspicious about the fact that, as far as we can tell, the invitation only went out to Will Smith — not to World Series MVP Freddie Freeman, not to regular season MVP Shohei Ohtani, just to Will Smith, who only had eight hits in 65 plate appearances during the World Series run and who starred in zero classic sitcoms produced by Quincy Jones.

But, to be fair to whichever event planner may have possibly switched up the Will Smiths in their celebrity address book, it’s a little confusing that Will Smith is, hilariously, two household names in Hollywood. But if movie star Will Smith did miss out on the chance to attend one of Hollywoods most prestigious events, I think that the Dodgers should return the favor and let Hitch Will Smith get jiggy with some catchers gear and take a couple pitches during spring training.

I know Chris Rock would love to see Will Smith on the receiving end of an Ohtani fastball.
