Most of the time, professional letter-turner Vanna White is laughing with you. But when you’re an especially dumb Wheel of Fortune contestant, she is definitely laughing at you. “I do chuckle on the inside at some of the wrong answers,” she told PEOPLE in 2019. “Half of the time, I don’t think they even realize what they’re saying.”
Here are three dumb answers that made White giggle despite herself…
“There was a famous one where the answer was ‘GONE WITH THE WIND,’” White remembered, “and the answer the contestant gave was ‘DONE WITH ONE HAND.’”

Just last month, contestant Phil McManus made White laugh out loud with his moronic answer to a holiday-themed puzzle. The clue was “Same Letter,” and the answer was “CHOCOLATES, CHESTNUTS & CHIMNEYS.
With nearly every single letter revealed, McManus guessed, “CHOCOLATES, CHESTNUTS & CHICKENS.”
“We had a puzzle where the answer was ‘STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE,’” White explained to PEOPLE. “And only the M was missing.”
That seems almost impossible to mess up, but the contestant managed to make White burst out laughing anyway. “The contestant answered, ‘STREETCAR NAKED DESIRE!’”
White’s examples are amusing enough, but YouTube is littered with funnier, dumber examples of Wheel of Fortune fails.
