Nick Saban Admits That His Daughter Is A Shane Gillis Fan Despite Gillis Roasting Him to Hell and Back
As much as legendary college football coach Nick Saban may hate it, the name “Shane Gillis” isn’t banned in the Saban household, though I doubt anyone will ever again utter the nickname “Alabama Jones” in his presence.
On Friday, December 20th, stand-up superstar and Notre Dame football fan Shane Gillis joined the desk of College GameDay as his Fighting Irish prepared to take down the Indiana Hoosiers. During his time as a guest picker on one of the most-watched sports shows on television, Gillis gave as few fucks as he did during his four days as part of the cast of Saturday Night Live, and he levied some playful-yet-serious accusations against the NCAA’s Southeastern Conference and former Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, whose ridiculous and rugged fedora made him an easy target for the Manosphere’s top shit-talker.
Don't Miss
During his appearance on College GameDay, Gillis laughingly accused Saban and the rest of the SEC of illegally paying their players before the NCAA started to allow student athletes to make money through the new NIL policy and made fun of the coach’s choice in headwear. Saban responded with grave seriousness that scared Gillis into an immediate apology, and in a recent conversation with fellow College GameDay co-host Pat McAfee, Saban insisted that he doesn’t find Gillis’ comments to be a laughing matter — even if his family may feel otherwise:
In defense of the seven-time national champion coach, Saban went his full 50-year career without committing a single recruiting violation or making a pay-for-play deal with the scores of future NFL stars who played for him at Alabama and about whom he bragged on College GameDay and The Pat McAfee Show. And, in Gillis’ defense, the comedian is a fan of a football team that doesn’t play in the SEC, so he has every right to insult, attack and make accusations against the conference that leads the NCAA in Major Infractions and considers itself to be the only conference that matters in college football.
Still, it doesn’t seem likely that Gillis will ever be a guest at the Saban household, no matter how much the coach’s daughter likes his comedy, and we’re probably not going to get a Saban cameo in Tires Season Two. That said, based on the buzz that Saban and Gillis’ spar has generated for the show, we shouldn’t be surprised if Gillis comes back to College GameDay for round two — especially with Notre Dame going up against Georgia next week.
What stupid hat will Saban wear for that one?
