‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ totally caught people off-guard
20 Movies That Weren’t At All What People Thought They’d Be

Not to alarm you, but if Reddit is to be believed, there are people out there who watch movies without knowing anything about them. Even here in the future, when you can find out anything you want at any time, people apparently just show up to a movie theater with no idea what they want to see. They commit to investing two hours of their one wild and precious life based on nothing more than a title and a poster. These are terrifying people who should be avoided at all costs.

However, misleading marketing or stereotypes can still give you false impressions of a movie even if you don’t choose to live under a rock. “These are sometimes the best finds, films for which you had no expectations and happen upon you,” user upstate_doc told r/Movies. They listed Jerry Maguire, which was “everything a rom-com should be,” even though they’re “always prepared to dislike Tom Cruise,” and How to Train Your Dragon, remembering “sitting there with the kids, unfocused, while trying to make sure everyone was settled,” but “by the time we got to ‘Test Drive,’ I was hooked,” as examples.

They then asked for more “movies that caught you off guard,” and their fellow Redditors provided plenty of inadvertent surprises.
