Bill Burr Says the ‘Lack of Empathy’ Over the CEO Shooting Goes Both Ways

Right now, the mainstream media is outraged over America’s callous response to the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City this past Wednesday. It’s a shame they can never seem to find that fire when UnitedHealthcare withholds life-saving seizure medication from children.

This past weekend, Bill Burr went viral for mocking media coverage over the shooting of Thompson outside the Midtown Manhattan Hilton Hotel on December 4th. During an episode of his joint podcast Anything Better? with Bill Burr & Paul Virzi, the stand-up legend suggested that, based on the various lawsuits and accusations of financial crimes that Thompson faced shortly before his death, the deceased CEO may not have been the “great guy” that CNN and Fox News say he was, and that the shooting should be viewed as an ordinary, run-of-the-mill, New York mob hit.

Now, Burr has another hot take about the news narrative surrounding Thompson’s death on another podcast, as he went off on the finger-wagging coming from elites in media and in politics on yesterday’s episode of Monday Morning Podcast. During the rant, Burr lambasted the rich and powerful who chide Americans for their “lack of empathy” regarding Thompson’s demise, as if Thompson's empathy ever extended to the American people.

“You know whats annoying me about this kid who killed this CEO?” asked Burr at the top of the episode, referencing the arrest of 26-year-old Luigi Mangione in connection to the Thompson shooting. “None of these news programs are talking about (how) the incredible lack of empathy from the general public about this is because of how these insurance treat people when theyre at their most vulnerable, after weve all given them our money every fuckin month, and now we need you, and all you do is deny us.”

Burr then took aim at the other major health insurance companies who have hidden identifying pictures and bios about their executives in the wake of the shooting. “These pussies in all these things are taking the pictures of their CEOs off their websites,” said Burr. “I gotta be honest with you, okay? I love that fuckin CEOs are fuckin afraid right now. You should be. By and large, youre all a bunch of selfish, greedy, fuckin pieces of shit, and a lot of you are mass murderers. You just dont pull the trigger.”

“Thats why it looks clean,” Burr said of corporate criminals, then returning his focus to Thompson. “What was his job? What did he do? What was the result of it?”

The result was an entire country celebrating and mocking his violent demise. But, hey, dying in the street from a gunshot wound still beats a kid dying of cancer because insurance wouldnt cover their chemo until it was too late.
