21 TV Shows That Cratered After One of Its Stars Left

Casting a TV show is a delicate balancing act. Unless it’s some kind of Mr. Beast rip-off reality series, it’s going to be an ensemble, so you have to find the actor who is best suited to each role and also plays well with the rest of the cast. If you manage to pull it off, it’s very dangerous to touch it. Pulling out one piece is like toppling a Jenga tower: no more fun and a hassle to clean up.

Still, sometimes hubris ruins everything. The studio or showrunner have way too much faith that they can keep the show going without a key part of it and learn an expensive lesson. It can be even worse if they try to replace an actor who, unbeknownst to them, was the glue holding the show together. It happens more often than you’d think, which is why user deku_izuku_ asked r/AskReddit, “What show failed because someone left the show?”
