20 Music Videos That Shocked the Hell Out of People
The fall of music television has been a double-edged sword. On one hand, artists don’t have a huge incentive to create wildly innovative music videos anymore. Gone are the days when getting banned from MTV gave you a number-one hit — kids these days aren’t looking for new music on YouTube, and if they are, they’re just as likely to fall down a rabbit hole of right-wing commentators as club jams.
On the other hand, the very fact that music videos aren’t seen by as wide an audience anymore gives artists the freedom to get truly weird. There’s no such thing as “banned from YouTube” as long as you’re not making an actual snuff film — the worst that happens is a prompt asking you to lie about being over 18.
With that in mind, one Redditor asked r/AskReddit, “What song’s music video shocked you the most?”
