Anthony Jeselnik Says Tony Hinchcliffe Is ‘A Troll Basking in the Shadow of Joe Rogan’

America’s greatest dark comic has no patience for hack podcasters
Anthony Jeselnik Says Tony Hinchcliffe Is ‘A Troll Basking in the Shadow of Joe Rogan’

Far-right open mic host Tony Hinchcliffe has no apologies for the Black, Puerto Rican and Latino Americans he insulted on the national stage last month, but he can at least apologize to comedians for pretending to be one of them.

After Hinchcliffe performed an unoriginal, unfunny and racist stand-up set at the Madison Square Garden rally for Donald Trump on October 27, 2024, political commentators on both sides of the aisle objected to the Trump campaign’s decision to have a “roast comedian” represent the values of the once and future president. On the other hand, many members of the comedy community were elated to see the controversial Kill Tony host and the all-time worst stand-up to ever shoot a terrible Netflix special embarrass himself on such a massive, international stage.

One such comic who couldn’t wait to see Hinchcliffe eat absolute shit in front of the whole world is Anthony Jeselnik, who recently spoke to Vulture about how his brand of dark comedy is so much smarter, funnier and better than all the Joe Rogan-adjacent edgelord “comedy” that trolls like Hinchcliffe trot out on their Patreon podcasts.

“He thought the Brady roast was his big moment, even though I think those jokes were hack as hell,” Jeselnik said of Hinchcliffes burgeoning career going into the massive bomb at MSG. “He is a troll, basking in the shadow of Joe Rogan.”

The day after Hinchcliffes disastrous set became front-page news across the country, Jeselnik reposted the above clip from his 2023 appearance on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von on his popular TikTok account, though the video had already gone viral on various platforms as Jeselniks fans came out in force to make sure that Hinchcliffes inevitable “triggered libtards cant take a little dark humor” excuse wouldnt stick. As Jeselnik so expertly explained to Von, the reason why Jeselnik “gets away” with making jokes that are far darker than anything Hinchcliffe could write is because, unlike Hinchcliffe, Jeselniks goal isnt to be an asshole — its to be funny.

In online comedy discourse, dark humor fans consider Jeselnik to be the gold standard, and they consistently use him as a counterpoint when comparatively milquetoast comics like Jerry Seinfeld claim that comedy is dead because no one is willing to offend. Jeselnik has fully embraced this role, and, in his talk with Vulture, he made sure to call out every comic who hides behind lame excuses to make even lamer “dark” jokes. On the topic of TikTok darling Matt Rifes infamous pivot toward edgy humor, Jeselnik said, “I truly believe all roads lead to me. I just don’t know why you could eat steak and you would want to eat cow shit.”

Maybe its because Jordan Peterson tells his followers to eat cow shit to own the libs.
