The 7 Most Evil Sitcom Characters
People tune into sitcoms for laughs, but that doesn’t mean the shows can’t be populated by some downright hateful characters. Redditor Helloimafanoffiction jumped on the r/Sitcom subreddit recently to ask, “Who is the greatest sitcom villain of all time?” and here were some of the most popular responses for the cruelest characters in comedy…
Tammy 2
Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation has few weaknesses in life, but his ex, Tammy 2, is one of them. “Her toxic, manipulative antics make her one of the most memorable and entertaining sitcom villains ever,” wrote user YARRLandPirate. But while Tammy 2 is a terrible person and master Swanson manipulator, Heidi1066 argued that “Tammy 1 is scarier.”
The Gang
Most of the sitcom villains named by Redditors are supporting characters who live to antagonize the nice people at the center of the show. On It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the evil lives in its main characters. Who exactly is in The Gang is up for debate — Dennis, Mac and Charlie for sure, Dee if you ask Frank, and Frank by way of blackmail. Either way, watch yourself in their presence.
Newman
Take it from Jerry himself — Newman is “pure evil.” Can you blame him? When Newman secretly borrowed Jerry’s apartment, the result was flea infestation. Who told Jerry’s parents that he was making out during Schindler’s List? You got it: Newman.
Of course, if you ask Newman, notes user flowers2doves2rabbit, Jerry is the real villain.
Mr. Burns
Hard to argue with this one. The Simpsons’ Mr. Burns is evil incarnate, with sins including the possible murder of Bart, Grampa Simpson and his own mother, dumping nuclear waste wherever he pleases and blocking out the freaking sun. When he’s not releasing the hounds, he’s ordering the execution of the Rolling Stones.
Marcy D’Arcy
Marcy is Al Bundy’s arch-nemesis on Married … With Children, often referring to him as a two-toed sloth. Is she truly evil? Maybe not, but she spends much of her free time conspiring against her neighbor. She even organized F.A.N.G. (Feminists Against Neanderthal Guys) to kick Al where it hurts.
Wil Wheaton
Sheldon’s animosity toward his arch-nemesis began at the 1995 Dixie Star Trek Convention — he spent 10 tortuous hours on a bus only to discover Wheaton didn’t bother to show up. Sheldon vowed revenge. It was a war that lasted for 16 years. Is Wheaton actually evil? In Sheldon’s mind, there’s no question.
Louie De Palma
Congratulations, Danny DeVito — you’re the only devil to make this list twice! As Taxi’s evil overlord, De Palma was a demonic despot who made life miserable for his underlings. Let’s not forget that he took advantage of his girlfriend’s drunken pal, gambled with kids, stole from the Sunshine Cab Company and spied on Elaine while she was changing her clothes. Despicable.
