A fan crafts the perfect nerve-calmer for Buck’s caddy
Behold, Buck Strickland’s Hot Toddy Recipe from ‘King of the Hill’

Nothing like a good hot toddy to calm your 12-year-old nerves.

On King of the Hill, the dubious morals and deep pockets of Buck Strickland, owner and namesake of Strickland Propane, offer a pleasant counterbalance to the stiff, conservative and straight-edge philosophy of Hank Hill. In the Season Five episode “The Buck Stops Here,” Bobby Hill gets to take a walk on the wild side and learn what a male role model who is basically the polar opposite of his own father has to teach him when he becomes Buck’s personal assistant and caddy at the Everwood Country Club, shortly after Bobby’s jokester antics land him in hot water with both the club and his real old man.

Speaking of hot water, some of us King of the Hill fans have long wondered whether Buck’s preferred warm beverage is the secret behind his relaxed approach to life, marriage and business — and, thanks to a drink-crafter in the King of the Hill subreddit, we’re about to test that theory out. Thank you, user MyUSImmigrantLife, for Mr. Strickland’s Hot Toddy Recipe.

Now, the hot toddy formula isn’t exactly a new invention. After all, it’s just warm water, whiskey, honey, lemon and an optional cinnamon stick. However, it’s the ratio of ingredients that makes a hot toddy the perfect relaxation refresher, and we like MyUSImmigrantLife’s approach: nine ounces of water, in honor of the front nine where Buck teaches Bobby about life; half a lemon, signifying the sourness of Buck’s better half; and whiskey, honey and cinnamon to the drinker’s best taste, since Buck always plays fast and loose with the sweet, the spicy and the boozy parts of life.

Of course, this recipe is missing the most important step in making a hot toddy — getting Miz Liz to make it for you. Miz Liz!
