Jim Parsons Doesn’t Know Why He Would Want to Make Another ‘Big Bang Theory’

Chuck Lorre’s third show in the ‘Big Bang Theory’ universe will apparently go on without Sheldon Cooper, young or old
Jim Parsons Doesn’t Know Why He Would Want to Make Another ‘Big Bang Theory’

Despite what series creator Chuck Lorre may have planned, The Big Bang Theory star and Young Sheldon producer Jim Parsons can’t find a reason to return to the franchise. Lorre, however, can find millions.

Back in May, Lorre’s second TV show based around child-prodigy-turned-theoretical-physicist Dr. Sheldon Cooper wrapped up its seventh season in the Young Sheldon series finale. The final episode merged the worlds of Lorre’s original multi-camera smash-hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory with his slower, more emotional coming-of-age comedy/drama in a bittersweet finale that saw Parsons appear as Old Sheldon one last time, a moment that hit close to home for both fans of the franchise and the performers themselves. Parsons’ last on-screen performance as the character who has come to define his career prior to cameo on Young Sheldon was in The Big Bang Theory’s own series finale five years prior, and, with Old and Young Sheldon joined together in the same send-off, the arc of the wise-cracking, social-norms-ignoring scientist seemed to be complete.

But while the story of Sheldon Cooper appears to have come to a close, Chuck Lorre is far from finished with the Big Bang Theory franchise that has become his most profitable IP to date — a new Big Bang Theory sequel series starring comics such as Brian Posehn Lauren Lapkus is currently in the works at Max.

Parsons, on the other hand, is more than happy to maintain the fond memories he has of the biggest projects of his career without making yet another Sheldon show. In a recent interview on Who's Talking to Chris Wallace, Parsons said that he can’t imagine why he would return to the Big Bang Theory extended TV universe — though, in theory, anything is possible.

When asked whether he would like to return to the Lorre-verse that made him a superstar, the 51-year-old Parsons replied, “As we sit here now, no, but I also I would I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much." Parsons further opined of the massive, unexpected success he achieved through The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, “They call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be certain it wouldnt be that.”

“And so why would we be doing it?” Parsons wondered of a possible third installment of the Sheldon saga without answer — though again, he hesitated to shut the door completely on a comeback. “Like I say, God willing, life is very long,” he cryptically commented.

Who knows? Maybe Lorre will cash in on the multi-verse trend thats taken over every other nerd-focused IP — so dont be surprised if Parsons ends up making Into the SheldonVerse.
