Is Jerry Seinfeld’s Watch Collection Actually a CGI Monstrosity?

Has Rolex been surreptitiously editing this 'Seinfeld' scene every year since 1996?
Is Jerry Seinfeld’s Watch Collection Actually a CGI Monstrosity?

According to some Seinfeld conspiracy theorists, Swiss watch brand Rolex SA may have spent $4 million on the most ambitious and unholy product placement campaign of all time, wielding the most cutting-edge computer graphics technology of 1996.

Here in the real world, sitcom legend and anti-woke warrior Jerry Seinfeld is almost as big an enthusiast of luxury watches as he is of luxury cars. He’s gushed about his precious collection to GQ in the past, and the vintage timepieces he sports on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and in interviews have been the subject of deep-dives and fan catalogs among the celebrity-watch-watcher community.

As a 70-year-old New Yorker with more money and more time than he knows what to do with, Seinfeld is, theoretically, the perfect poster boy for Rolex collectors — and, if the fan theories are true, Rolex has been planning for such an eventuality for almost 30 years.

Over in the Seinfeld subreddit, one fan recently sparked widespread discussion over the Rolex company’s influence on Seinfeld’s extended life in streaming and physical media releases by posting a screenshot of a conspiracy theory that claims that, back in 1996, Rolex paid Seinfeld $4 million for the rights to 50 years’ worth of product updates on a scene in which Jerry’s watch is prominently displayed so that they can have a new watch digitally imposed on the shot every year in order to advertise their latest creation.

Next they’re going to claim that Keith Hernandez spat on Kramer and Newman.

Notwithstanding the nearly impossible logistics of Rolex digitally altering the images of the scene in syndication, streaming and home media each and every year since the VHS era, the biggest flaw in the watch conspiracy is the fact that Seinfeld, despite owning several vintage Rolex watches, is not, himself a Rolex fanboy. No, Seinfeld is a much more devoted customer of another Swiss watchmaker, Breitling SA. In fact, hes wearing his favorite Breitling Chronomat 81950A in most scenes that show Jerrys watch throughout Seinfeld, including the scene at the center of the conspiracy.

The only digital editing done to the scene that Rolex supposedly spent $4 million to inject with the most high-effort product placement campaign in sitcom history was the work done by whichever Photoshop customer created the graphic that shot to the top of the Seinfeld fan forum this week.

But, honestly, we dont even need to look at the picture to deem the supposed Rolex campaign to be a hoax — frankly, it sounds made up.
