This ‘MADtv’ Sketch About Hannah Montana at A Diddy Party Is Even Darker Today
I bet Diddy wishes he could throw on a blonde wig and become unrecognizable right about now.
After decades of proudly presenting himself as the A-list’s most ambitious and hedonist party host, the many legendary soirées thrown by Sean “P Diddy” Combs are currently at the center of 2024’s biggest pop-culture scandal. Right now, Diddy is under indictment for sex trafficking and racketeering, with his infamous “Freak Off Parties” playing a central role in both the criminal charges against him and the media coverage of his crumbling empire. As more details about Diddy’s alleged misdeeds come to light, the internet continues to comb through the publicly available information on the private lives of every celebrity who ever snapped an Instagram picture in Diddy’s mansion, with extra interest focused on those stars whose relationships with the mogul and accused sex criminal started when they were underaged.
Don't Miss
Justin Bieber is currently a key figure in internet speculation cycle about Diddy’s potential crimes, given that the pop singer first started hanging out with Diddy when Bieber was just 15 years old. Well, 15 years ago, the iconoclastic sketch comedy series MADtv sounded the alarm on another child star’s partying with potential predator P Diddy:
Whether or not Crista Flanagan and the MADtv writers set out to draw attention to alleged predatory behavior going on at Diddy’s parties, today, the sketch reads as if it’s spilling the beans on an open secret. Given Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus’ winding career path and public image transformation not too long after this sketch aired, MADtv’s take on the social lives of underaged pop stars and terrifyingly adult music moguls is prescient on multiple levels.
This sketch recently resurfaced on Reddit where comedy fans noticed that shows like MADtv have been calling out (alleged) monsters like Diddy for decades while the public does little besides laugh. “It’s like the Weinstein jokes appearing on 30 Rock years before he was charged,” one fan said of Tina Fey's old habit of calling out predators long before the police are ready to do the same.
“Just like when people were making jokes about Harvey Weinstein a decade before he was charged with raping everyone. Some things never change,” another Redditor wrote of the MADtv sketch.
“‘everyone knew’ about weinstein. ‘everyone knew’ about diddy. What does ‘everyone know’ about now?” one more commenter asked pointedly and ominously.
