The historic first for women in Marvel wasn’t originally in the script, but Hahn insisted on baring all
Kathryn Hahn Says It Was Her Idea to Become the First Woman in MCU History to Show Her Ass On-Screen in ‘Agatha All Along’

Like too many professions, the “showing your bare butt in a Marvel project” industry has long been dominated by men, but, in Agatha All Along, Kathryn Hahn is brave enough to break through that glass ceiling cheeks-first.

The Disney+ miniseries centered around Hahn’s character from the surreal, genre-bending 2021 hit show WandaVision premiered earlier this week, drawing generally positive reviews from critics and most superhero fans. Predictably, the series has also attracted the acrimony of the more emotionally stunted fanboys of the Marvel fan universe who object to the existence of women and gay people, both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in the real world. Right-wing broadcaster and Newsmax talk show host Chris Plante even called it a gay “recruiting video,” and some fragile male fans are derisively comparing the show to the recently canceled and female-focused Star Wars series The Acolyte.

Hahn, however, is unafraid to take on the status quo and challenge perceptions of what women can and can’t do in nerd shows and movies. In the first episode of Agatha All Along, Hahn made history by becoming the first woman to perform a semi-nude scene in an MCU project, exposing her ass to Disney+ subscribers everywhere. In an interview with Variety, Hahn revealed that the watershed moment was her invention after the director originally asked her to throw on a robe for the scene.

John C. Reilly was right – she’s incredible.

Spoilers ahead for those who havent watched WandaVision but somehow still care about superhero shows — in the iconic nude scene, Hahns character Agatha Harkness has just realized that the Avengers antihero Wanda Maximoff has trapped her consciousness in a police-procedural-inspired TV universe. When Agatha comes to, she also finds that her witch powers are gone, and a sidekick on her crime drama is secretly another witch sent to kill her. Instead of prioritizing modesty in the midst of such a jarring epiphany, Agatha sprints outside ass-naked to clarify some important details about her current reality with her neighbor, marking a monumental first for the MCU.

“Well, I came up with it,” Hahn said of the history-making scene in question, seemingly unaware that she broke a gender barrier in a franchise where guys like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and any other Chris have been flashing and flaunting their asses for years. “I thought it was good to see her as stripped down, literally, as we possibly could, which spoke into her powerlessness at the present moment. … She’s been stripped of all of her power at this point in the series.”

“I mean, she really had nothing at that point, and so it became about illustrating that gap between that moment and her finding her power again,” Hahn added.

Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer recalled the moment when Hahn went off-script for the sake of aspiring exhibitionist MCU actresses everywhere, saying, “Kathryn was like, ‘Would she grab the robe? I don’t feel like she would grab the robe. I feel like she would really not care about being naked in front of the neighbors. I told her, ‘That is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.’ Kathryn has done so much work, and she’s done a lot of nudity and other things, and so it also felt very subversive to get Kathryn Hahn’s nudity into the MCU.”

It’s funny how, despite being the most lauded and handsomely rewarded actor in the entire MCU, even Robert Downey Jr. didn’t have the bravery to bare his butt like Hahn did — where’s her $100 million???
