As MLB Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs fights prostate cancer, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom has united in agreement that we’re all going to retire that one line until he beats it.

Boggs, 66, is a former 12-time All-Star, five-time batting champion and a World Series winner, but since he never played in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform, his primary impact on the City of Brotherly Love is his contribution to the field of mile-high partying — on a cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles while playing for the Boston Red Sox, Boggs famously drank an absurd number of beers in a plane ride that became the stuff of baseball legend while inspiring one of the most quotable It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes of all time.

On Saturday, Boggs announced that he is being treated for prostate cancer, telling his followers, “With the strength and support of my family and my faith in God I’m going to ring that damn bell.”

The Always Sunny fandom has responded by insisting that the greatest celebrity cameo in the series should ring it so hard it cracks like the Liberty Bell.

In the 2015 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode “The Gang Beats Boggs,” Dennis, Charlie, Dee and Frank set out to beat Bogg's reported record of 73 beers in a single flight, and the infielder with 3,010 career hits made an appearance as himself during Charlies drunken hallucination. While Boggs was on the Always Sunny set, Day claims that Boggs revealed the real number of beers drunk during the famous flight to be a mind-boggling 107 brews before going three-for-five the very next game.

While the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia subreddit responded to the news of Boggs diagnosis with the normal number of quotes from his appearance in the Season 10 classic episode in a thread titled, “Beer Drinking Legend Wade Boggs Announced He Is Currently Fighting Prostate Cancer. Wishing Him All the Best on a Speedy Recovery,” some fans offered their heartfelt wishes for him to have strength through the fight.

“Hopefully it was caught early. If so, survival rates are really high. Good luck to him,” one said of Boggs journey.

Another added, “This is absolutely the best way to find about some truly god awful news. I am in a glass case of emotion right now.”

One more wrote, “Fuck Cancer, hope he beats this shit so we can continue making RIP and very much alive jokes for years to come.”

Until then, lets keep Boggs in our hearts and a beer in our hands — unless youre the commissioner, of course.
