Rachel Bloom Teases a Potentially Massive ‘Frasier’ Twist

The first season of Paramount+’s Frasier revival thankfully didn’t introduce any major plot twists that completely upended the entire franchise. And while Season Two hopefully won’t reveal that Martin Crane secretly faked his hip injury, or imply that Eddie the dog was merely a figment of Frasier’s imagination, it seems as though one episode could introduce a potentially huge wrinkle in the Frasier-verse.

One of the more promising aspects of Season Two is the inclusion of My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom, who is reportedly playing the daughter of Frasier’s notoriously unscrupulous agent Bebe Glazer. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Bloom, an avowed Frasier fan, called the experience “wonderful” and “very surreal.” She also shed some light on what we should expect from her character’s storyline. “I play Phoebe Glazer,” Bloom explained, “a very cultured kind of opera fan, and she and Frasier instantly hit it off in a way that he questions if maybe they’re related.”

Wait, what?!?!

Okay, if Frasier is suspecting that he’s “related” to Bebe’s daughter, that can only mean one thing: He thinks she’s his daughter. As you may recall, back in Season Two, Frasier and Bebe drunkenly hooked up, to the horror of the rest of the Crane family.

So is it possible that Bebe secretly had Frasier’s daughter, and somehow never told him, even while continuing to work with him for nine years after that point?

The inclusion of Bebe’s daughter is already a pretty weird fit for the show, continuity-wise. If Phoebe is roughly Bloom’s age in real life, that would mean that Bebe had a young child who was inexplicably never mentioned during the entirety of the original show

But things get even weirder if we’re supposed to believe that she could be Frasier’s daughter. That would mean that Bebe not only hid her pregnancy from Frasier, she hid the existence of his daughter from him even while they were spending an inordinate amount of time together.

Bebe showed up less than a year after the episode where they have sex in Season Three’s “Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fired,” which found Bebe staying over at Frasier’s condo while trying to kick her nicotine addiction in order to marry a wealthy oil baron. Did she really have a newborn at that time? Who was the biological offspring of the therapist helping her with her smoking addiction?

Considering that farcical misunderstandings are what makes Frasier tick, it seems more than a little likely that Frasier will assume that Phoebe is his daughter at first, but later find out that this isn’t really the case.

But the idea that she could be his daughter is so logically unsound given what we’ve already seen, that even the suggestion that Frasier would briefly consider this possibility is more than a little hard to swallow — almost as much as Freddy Crane’s transmogrification and sudden memory loss.
