Sydney Sweeney Turned Down Intimacy Coordinator for ‘SNL’ Sketch

Sydney Sweeney Turned Down Intimacy Coordinator for ‘SNL’ Sketch

This past March, Sydney Sweeney of Anyone But You, The White Lotus and Everything Sucks fame, made famously out-and-proud comedian Bowen Yang straight — or at least he pretended to be for a sex scene with her.

“One of the weirdest (SNL experiences) was something I only have myself to blame for,” Yang told Stephen Colbert on Tuesday's episode of The Late Show. “We wrote a sketch called ‘Bowen’s Straight’ where I exerted my range — I played a heterosexual version of myself seducing Sydney Sweeney.”

Yang said that he was impressed by how committed Sweeney was to the bit, telling Colbert that he was “charmed” by how she made him believe that she was in love with him. “That was the craziest feeling,” Yang added. He also noted that Sweeney suggested that she didn’t need an intimacy coordinator to film their sex scene in the sketch because she had done far more explicit scenes in Euphoria.

Euphoria is a controversial HBO show that often artistically depicts adults — playing teenagers — obsessing over sex, drugs, alcohol and bedazzled makeup. Although Sweeney was comfortable with Yang on SNL, Sweeney is actually among several of the Euphoria cast members who have allegedly asked show creator Sam Levinson to cut down on the nude scenes on the show, along with Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Austin Abrams (Dash & Lily) and adult film star Chloe Cherry

But Yang and Sweeney’s love scene in the sketch was a fairly tame one — and by the end, they go their separate ways, with Yang joking that he has to “keep up appearances with the whole gay thing” since it’s his “meal ticket.”
