Movies are sort of like little time capsules you can watch in your living room with your friends while eating popcorn, except you had no hand in putting them together, so it could get weird. Unless they’re radical to the point that no one in their right mind would pick them for movie night, they reflect the values of their times, and boy were we super okay with sexual assault even one generation ago.
That’s why, when user InfamousRx12 asked r/AskReddit, “What movie has aged horribly?” Reddit was full of tales of retro movie nights ruined by the realization that our parents’ world was terrible. It wasn’t just sexual coercion and misogyny — there was plenty of racism, too. There are also lots of movies that just wouldn’t happen thanks to modern technology and even a few sci-fi predictions that are pretty silly in hindsight.
