23 Great Movies That No One Even Noticed
It’s an unfortunate fact of modern film that the best movies aren’t always going to get the box-office glory. In fact, it’s pretty much a guarantee that whatever ridiculously large animal Jason Statham has to fistfight that’s currently busting the blocks at your local cinema isn’t going to stand the test of time. Kramer vs. Kramer would hardly get seen these days, let alone become a movie night offering you could be reasonably outraged that your spouse has never seen.
“A recent example for me is The Last Duel,” argued Redditor SerDire recently. “It had all the factors to make a bigger splash: directed by Ridley Scott starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer,” but “it was going to be a hard sell right out of the gate because it’s (a) two-and-a-half-hour period piece that deals with sexual assault that was released during the height of COVID.” As a result, “it only made $30 million and is considered a massive box office bomb,” which sucked for SerDire because “medieval movies are probably my favorite genre and I want more medieval movies with massive budgets.”
They then asked r/Movies, “What movie are you genuinely bummed out about that came and went with little to no attention?” and Reddit brought back tales of bad timing, studio sabotage and audiences just plain not being ready.
