‘The Daily Show’ to Resume the Guest Host Carousel Following Former Favorite Hasan Minhaj’s ‘Emotional Truth’ Scandal
The Daily Show is set to return on October 16th with a new round of rotating guest hosts. The rumor mill surrounding Comedy Central’s hit satirical news series seems to believe that Hasan Minhaj, the previous front-runner for the hosting job left vacant by Trevor Noah, has quickly fallen out of favor following a damning New Yorker report that accused Minhaj of fabricating shocking and bizarre stories of his own persecution – but that might just be those “emotional truths” talking.
Before the beginning of the now-resolved WGA strike, the rolling audition process for finding the next comic to fill the position once made great by Jon Stewart was a surprisingly popular exercise. The Daily Show saw consistently high ratings that outperformed Noah’s tenure as former correspondents and other industry icons took turns skewering the news and adding their own flavor to the format, and some wondered whether it would be wiser to turn the hosting role into a gig economy-esque experiment with endless guest spots replacing the permanent position. However, one comedian pulled ahead of the pack in the eyes of the show’s producers, as, up until recently, it was speculated that Minhaj would be the inevitable victor of the guest host battle royale.
Don't Miss
However, Minhaj’s integrity is now under question after he admitted to making up stories about anthrax attacks and islamophobic FBI terrorist stings in his act, and, with The Daily Show resuming in just a couple weeks, its decision makers will reportedly continue to explore their options. If Minhaj receives a mysterious letter in the mail, he shouldn’t worry about opening it near his daughter – it’s probably just a pink slip.
