Larry David Lit Up Elon Musk's BS Politics At A Wedding in a Real-Life ‘Curb’ Scene
When entertainment magnate Ari Emanuel seated Larry David next to Elon Musk at his wedding, it was the most inexplicable Larry David-related wedding decision since the time that sign language interpreter showed up to Victor and Sammi’s wedding wearing a dress with a burlesque-level neckline.
The Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm star isn’t known for his ability to keep his more confrontational thoughts to himself, especially in social situations where angrily ranting at strangers is frowned upon. Presumably, Emanuel understood that truth when he asked David to officiate his wedding, hoping for his ceremony to be spiced up by some of David’s hot takes on the topics of weddings or group obligations in general. Perhaps, even, Emanuel seated his ornery officiant next to the controversial of X (formerly Twitter) knowing that pairing the two at a dinner table would lead to more flying sparks than at a Chinese Tesla factory.
Don't Miss
In Walter Isaacson’s biography of Musk, titled simply Elon Musk, the writer retold a story that was later confirmed by David of how the sitcom superstar accosted the executive for his conservative heel turn in the aftermath of the Uvalde shooting, asking Musk, “Do you want to murder kids in school?” According to Cheryl’s sister, that’s still not the most inappropriate thing David’s ever done to a wedding.
Emanuel’s wedding took place just days after the shocking Texas school shooting, and, with the tragedy fresh in his mind, David decided to take aim at the neo-conservative icon who had been thinly justifying his slide to the right with tweets attacking the American left. Less than a week before Uvalde, Musk tweeted that he no longer aligns with the Democratic party because “they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican.”
Upon hearing David’s unprompted question, Musk was reportedly “baffled and annoyed,” telling David, “No, no, I’m anti-kid murder.” David then asked Musk, “Then how could you vote Republican?”
Isaacson confirmed the story with David while writing Musk’s biography – the comedy legend told Isaacson of his subject, “(Musk’s) tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw. Even if Uvalde never happened, I probably would have brought it up, because I was angry and offended.”
In other words, why we love Larry David.
