‘I Want to Create a Virtual Replica of Your Daughter and Invite My Friends Over to Do Whatever We Want’: Sean Penn’s Incredibly Creepy Anti-A.I. Rant
No stranger to controversy, Sean Penn is back in the headlines again and raging against the machine in ways that only Sean Penn could. The two-time Oscar winner recently sat down with Variety and shared the creepiest spin on one of Hollywood’s buzziest issues.
After describing how the only good bone in his body led him to Ukraine and explaining his need to destroy his two Oscars as a compulsory response to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, the conversation shifted to domestic issues like the WGA and SAG strikes. One of the fundamental matters at stake for each is the studios’ insistence on utilizing A.I. In the case of actors, they’re fighting back against A.I. exploiting their voice and likeness in perpetuity. Like any normal person, Penn wholeheartedly disagrees with the practice. But his unhinged response to the “indecent proposal” reminded us that Penn has an unwavering commitment to being anything but normal.
To that end, he told Variety that he had an ultimatum of sorts for the studio executives: “So you want my scans and voice data and all that. Okay, here’s what I think is fair: I want your daughter’s, because I want to create a virtual replica of her and invite my friends over to do whatever we want in a virtual party right now. Would you… tell me you think that’s cool?”
Don't Miss
The bizarre, predatory tirade goes so far in trying to prove his point that it almost undermines it. If anything, it’s so casually rattled off that it mostly just lends credence to the actor’s history of alleged abuse toward women.
Penn went on to say that he was very serious about the proposal and justified it by saying that the studios have a real “lack of morality.”
