‘She’s the Reason I Am Who I Am’: ‘Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney Mourns His Mother
Linda Kozub, barrier-breaking journalist and mother to Saturday Night Live star Kyle Mooney, has passed away, as confirmed by her star son.
The lauded character comic, born to Kozub and environmental consultant Brian Mooney, briefly eulogized his beloved mother in an Instagram post yesterday evening, highlighting her achievements as the first female sports reporter in the history of his hometown newspaper, The San Diego Union-Tribune. Kozub is survived by her husband and her three sons, Kyle and his older brothers Sean and Ryan.

“Sending love to those who have lost someone and hugs to our loved ones here with us,” Kyle wrote, receiving an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.
“Condolences Brother,” wrote Roots drummer and Tonight Show musician Questlove. SNL costar Kenan Thompson commented on Mooney’s post, “Aw buddy!!! I’m so sorry!!!! Love and light to your family!!!!” while renowned comedy filmmaker Judd Apatow wrote, “I’m so sorry. She sounds amazing.”
Lauren Holt, another SNL alumna who appeared alongside Mooney as a featured player during the show’s 46th season, wrote of Kozub, “I’m so so sorry Kyle. She was so sweet and absolutely hilarious. Sending you and your family tons of love.”
