‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Is Getting Disappeared from Paramount+
If you’re looking to watch Inside Amy Schumer, you won’t be looking inside Paramount+ anymore. The sketch series, which is currently vying for an Emmy nomination for its fifth season, is among a number of original series, movies and a slew of Nickelodeon programming that’s getting the ax from the streamer.
The move comes just a week after Paramount+ announced the cancelation and removal of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe. A Paramount+ spokesperson tried to rationalize the cuts by describing them as a way to help bolster Showtime’s “portfolio of edgy, critically-acclaimed programming” in conjunction with the launch of Paramount+ with Showtime.
The spokesperson continued by explaining that the company is “refining our content offering to deliver the best streaming experience for subscribers. This is consistent with our content strategy since launch and across our business, which ensures we make smart, efficient choices, informed by audience data and insights. We are removing select programming as we look to optimize Showtime’s robust slate of premium originals.”
Don't Miss
But there might also be a more nefarious reason at play, too — and a big reason behind the writers’ strike. Late last month, Parrot Analytics strategist Brandon Katz, explained to NBC News that “removing content from platforms is a way for streamers to avoid residual payments and licensing fees.”
Either way, it’s been a rough couple of months for Schumer. She’s had a too-tame Netflix special, talked about being edged out of the Barbie movie and watched people on Twitter say she’s not funny. Hopefully she bounces back. After all, without her, we never would’ve gotten Pete Davidson.
