Scarlett Johansson Says Colin Jost Is Bad at Running Lines, Fantastic at Testing Eye Cream
After Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost married Scarlett Johansson, most members of the comedy world probably thought that he could do anything. Well, we found the one thing Jost can’t do — run lines with Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson is currently on the press tour for the upcoming Wes Anderson film Asteroid City, and the A-lister took an opportunity for cross-promotion on The Today Show back in March to market her signature skincare line. Surprisingly, the Oscar-nominee and perennial magazine cover model was unfamiliar with a certain product in her line before pursuing her skincare ambitions, but her new husband helped her catch up — i.e., ScarJo didn’t use eye cream until she married Jost.
Don't Miss
A comedian giving a two-time “Sexiest Woman Alive” beauty tips sounds suspiciously like a Saturday Night Live sketch.
Back when Johansson was working on her stand-alone MCU film Black Widow, she admitted that her marital partner was a poor sport in helping her prepare for the movie. Apparently, Jost, a huge fan of her performance as the titular superhero, couldn’t stand the thought of any plot points being spoiled before he could see his wife in action on opening night. “I can’t tell him anything,” she said on The Jess Cagle Podcast with Julia Cunningham.
“If I was in the middle of a big action set piece or sequence or whatever, he was just not wanting hear anything about it,” Johansson recalled. “Of course, he wanted to know, ‘How was your day?’ But as soon as it would bleed into, ‘Can you read this scene?’, he’s like, ‘Am I going to get any spoilers?’ He wanted to know ‘spoiler alert’ before we read lines together. Can you believe that?”
Despite being decidedly unhelpful in his wife’s acting work, Jost was a more-than-willing test subject for her skincare line, specifically when it came to the aforementioned ointment. “He’s the first partner I’ve ever had that uses an eye cream,” Johansson told People, saying that he was eager to try everything she had in her line — sometimes to a fault.
She recalled the time she once administered a specialized face mask to the Weekend Update host, saying, “I forgot to tell Colin it was self-warming, and he thought he was having a really crazy allergic reaction to it. He was like, ‘It’s spread, and it’s melting off my face!’ He was completely freaking out.”
Johansson shouldn’t give away her husband’s weaknesses so freely — Sarah Squirm is going to pitch a “Colin’s face melts off” segment as soon as SNL returns.
