‘Arrested Succession’ Successfully Merges the Obscenity of ‘Succession’ With the Ron Howard Narration of ‘Arrested Development’

The storytelling set-up of a wealthy family engaged in intergenerational struggle as the old patriarch fails to properly pass on his power to his progeny is not particularly new — in fact, it’s at least as old as Shakespeare’s King Lear, a primary influence on HBO’s smash hit dramedy Succession. In television, however, the dynamic is done no better than it is on Mitch Hurwitz’ Arrested Development and the aforementioned Brian Cox Emmy darling, though the beloved shows vary wildly in tone.

One editing wizard, known only by their YouTube handle shmendri, has merged Succession and Arrested Development into “Arrested Succession,” a project that takes clips from Succession and adds a Ron Howard A.I. voice’s narration along with the music stings and cutaways of a typical Bluth family blunder to make a final product that somehow lands directly in the middle of the two shows.
Now we want to see what shmendri would do if they tried to turn the Bluths into, in Logan Roy’s words, “serious people.”
