‘I Was Slowly Lowering My Mask Like One of Those French Girls’: Rainn Wilson Recounts Viral Face Reveal to an In-Flight ‘Office’ Fan
Imagine spending an entire plane ride watching your favorite sitcom, only to realize at the end of the flight that a star of the series was sitting right next to you the whole time. 30 Rock fans would probably wonder when Alec Baldwin made amends with American Airlines.
The Office star Rainn Wilson recently went viral on Instagram when he posted a video of himself on a plane watching the person next to him watch episode after episode of The Office, blissfully unaware that Dwight Schrute was the guy with the beet breath in the next seat over. Last night, Wilson went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new book, Soul Boom: Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution, and to recall the dramatic reveal when he slipped off his COVID mask mid-conversation with the inflight fan.
Don't Miss
“It took him about 47 seconds of talking to me,” Wilson explained of the moment the superfan finally recognized him, “And then, all of the sudden, it was one of those face-melting brain explosions.” Pretty sure that’s how you get on the no-fly list, Dwight.
Wilson clarified a point that caused some consternation among internet contrarians – before he uploaded the video of the blissfully unaware Office-head online for CNN to pick up as their front-page story, he did, in fact, ask the unnamed fan for permission to post. “We bonded, and it was beautiful,” Wilson said of their conversation.
That guy is going to be carefully eyeing the person next to him on every flight for the rest of his life. He'd better watch out for John Krasinski wearing fake glasses – identify theft is not a joke.
